THINGS TO DO AROUND THE MOUNTAINVIEW LODGE
In the Mountains of North Carolina
After a day of hiking the Appalachian Trail, chasing waterfalls (Sassafras Falls, Middle Falls, and Big Falls are some favorites!), or getting lucky at Harrah's Casino — curl up in front of the gas fireplace, or make s'mores around the fire pit.
Want a day on the lake? Rent a boat and enjoy the pristine Nantahala Lake with a scenic view of the mountains or paddle the Nantahala River. You could even try mountain biking at Tsali where the trails wind along the lake shore and onto the wooded ridges.
Ready for a different way to explore the mountainside with the family? Try taking a trail by horseback with a ride from the local stables followed by ice cream at Cups & Cones! Looking for a cold brew? Hoppy Trout Brewing Co. is a local fave (DELISH pizza too!) and Burger Basket is a great spot for the best burgers and fries!
STAY IN THE COZY MOUNTAIN CABIN
While there is so much to do out and about, you also never have to leave the comfort of the lodge! Stock up on groceries on your way in – at the local Ingles or hit up Walmart (or a larger Ingles, with a Starbucks) just 20 minutes away in Murphy. You'll have everything you need for a relaxing, cozy retreat full of amazing views with our many windows, well-appointed kitchen, gaming, puzzles, firepit, hot tub, and more.

Fresh, homemade food for breakfast and lunch, great coffee and ice cream, too!
Hot or cold, coffee or tea – or fresh, deliciously decadent mini donuts. You name it and it’s probably on Rare Bird Emporium’s menu... and it's good! Along with the cutest shop full of local artisans creations and more.
Suffice it to say, one of the best burgers we've had! A sweet little spot to grab a basket of burgers, sandwiches, and fries.
Great BBQ place with 4 specialty BBQ sauces and delish hot dogs too.
Where we like to pop in for chips, salsa, and margaritas! (This is a great place to eat too!)

You don't have to look far to find a great bottle or brew!
Specialty craft beers with a relaxed
atmosphere and view of the Snowbird Mountains.
In the Snowbird Mountains above the Western Carolina Regional Airport (right near our cabin!), FernCrest planted a small vineyard of Chardonel, Vidal Blanc, and Cynthiana grapevines in 2010. The wines continue to earn medals and they have dry and sweet so there's something for every taste!
Nottely River Valley Vineyards (Murphy)
Nottely River Valley Vineyards strives to fashion their wines after the “Old World Style, Hand-Crafted” wines of Europe... and they're so good.
Life's too short for bad beer is their motto, and they deliver! Along with brick oven pizza made from scratch.
